Christian Moore, WhyTry Founder, LCSW
Christian Moore is an internationally renowned author, speaker, licensed clinical social worker, advocate for at-risk youth, and founder of the WhyTry Program. As a child, Christian struggled with ADHD and severe learning disabilities. He was told by high school counselors that college was not a viable option, but fought his way to a Master's degree in social work. His unique experiences and expertise have led to the development of the WhyTry Program and the Resilience Breakthrough for Youth, and to the writing of the highly-acclaimed book, The Resilience Breakthrough: 27 Tools for Turning Adversity into Action.
Hans Magleby, President
Hans Magleby is the president and founder of WhyTry and creator the WhyTry Program with Christian Moore. Hans is an experienced public speaker, with over 16 years as a presenter, trainer, and consultant. Hans frequently speaks to audiences of educators, administrators, counselors and mental health professionals as well as probations officers and corrections staff. As a husband and father of five children ranging in age from 9 to 20 years old, Hans is a passionate advocate for youth and speaks from years of personal experience teaching youth resilience and important life skills embraced in the WhyTry program.
Hans has a diverse background in technology, education, and business. He studied fine art at Brigham Young University and was a part-time faculty member there, teaching classes in painting and computer art. During that time, he also worked as the art director for a video game company and developed a passion for using technology to teach and engage youth. Hans later started Freeservers, a successful Internet company that grew rapidly to support and service over 2 million customers prior to being sold to internet portal About.com. Since selling Freeservers, Hans has been dedicated to the growth and mission of WhyTry, developing practical tools to teach resilience and motivate youth. His experience in product development and instructional design have been key to the creation and success of the WhyTry Program.
Bruce Bushnell, Trainer/Presenter
For 26 years, Bruce Bushnell has centered his career around promoting youth success. This career began as a high school counselor, where Bruce devoted his time and expertise as a member of the Executive High School Relations Board, senior vice president of the Alpine Counseling Association, and vice president of the Utah Counselor Association.
Bruce now helps youth succeed by presenting passionate WhyTry keynotes and trainings across the country. As an advocate of the program from its earliest days, Bruce is also the creator of many of the WhyTry learning activities, which are proven to help youth develop the social and emotional skills necessary to reach their goals.
Chris Brown, Trainer/Presenter
Chris has spent over 30 years in the human performance industry as a competitor, teacher, coach, university administrator, and sought-after motivational speaker. His inspirational trainings empower participants, both young and old, with a systematic approach to breaking through life's challenges. Chris is passionate about the art and science of leadership, character education, and service learning. He believes that everyone can be his or her own greatest hero.
Gina Purcell, Trainer/Presenter
Gina Purcell is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has worked in a variety of settings, including the Children’s Unit of the Utah State Hospital, Division of Child and Family Services, and at her local public mental health center as therapist. She worked in the School-based Services Division and the New Vista program with behavior-disordered youth. Some of her responsibilities included coordinating services between the mental health sector and school administrators and teachers, implementing behavior programs, and providing individual, group, and family therapy for these students.
Bonnie Hubert, Trainer/Presenter
Bonnie Hubert has spent 18 years working in the education and mental health fields.
Her degrees include a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a specialization in
Spanish, and Masters degrees in both Educational Leadership and Counseling. She is a
licensed professional counselor (LPC) and will earn her Doctorate of Educational
Leadership and Policy Studies in Dec. 2014. Bonnie has facilitated the implementation
of the Why Try curriculum in grades PK-12 as well as in alternative and correctional
settings. Her ability to communicate and connect with youth and adults makes her a
highly sought after speaker and presenter.
Kevin Card, Trainer/Presenter
With a Masters in Education, involvement in numerous leadership positions, a passion for public speaking, and an understanding of youth from 31 years of counseling, Kevin fits perfectly in his role as a WhyTry trainer and curriculum writer. Kevin has served as president of the Alpine School District Counselors Association and president of UACTE Guidance Division. He built and developed an outdoor youth recreational leadership program for the Alpine School District, worked as a supervising instructor for a leadership team at Utah Valley University, and has emphasized career development, sexual harassment, stress, substance abuse, problem solving, communication, and leadership among high school students for years. Over the last ten years, Kevin has taught WhyTry at an elementary, high school, and college level.
Michael Brown, Trainer/Presenter
Michael T. Brown, M.Ed. is an educator, counselor, inspirational speaker, and WhyTry trainer. He is the recipient of the PWCPS Above and Beyond Award for excellence in the field of counseling. Michael is the founder of Browns Leadership Consulting, LLC, author of the highly-acclaimed book Born to Achieve, and host of the internationally accessible radio program The Brown Bag on BlogTalkRadio.com.
As a former WhyTry facilitator, Michael brings experience and enthusiasm to his role as a trainer.
Michael is committed and passionate about empowering others and community through education, inspiration, and mobilization. Michael and his lovely wife reside in Woodbridge VA with their wonderful children.
Scott Wood, Trainer/Presenter
Scott has worked in the mental health field for over 20 years, working to provide a better quality of life for individuals, couples, and families. He has partnered with the Division of Child and Family Services to provide services for at-risk youth and their families, provided clinical services for employee assistance programs, and has worked with private agencies to help adults with learning disabilities and autism spectrum disorders. For the last seven years, Scott has demonstrated his passion for the work he does by leading workshops and trainings across the United States. Scott holds a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management and a Master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling.
Nancy Blackwell, Trainer/Presenter
Nancy Blackwell is a nationally recognized speaker, teacher, and trainer. She has worked to improve the lives of youth in the educational community for the last 22 years. Nancy graduated with a Master’s degree in education, and has received several awards for her work as an educator, including “Escondido Teacher of the Year” and a nominee for “San Diego County Teacher of the Year,” where she represented 20,000 teachers from 33 districts. Prior to her work with WhyTry, Nancy facilitated for a premiere accelerated learning company, where she took her training methods as far as Hong Kong, Singapore, Mexico, and Beijing.
