"Many (of our) counselors have collected data on changes in student behavior and school performance. The positive results are impressive.
I give Christian Moore and the Why Try program my highest recommendation. . ."

"The WhyTry Program is currently used by K-12 schools, educational institutions, group homes, mental health agencies and youth corrections facilities as a means to teach youth valuable life skills. It is used with youth on both an individual (one on one) basis as well as in group learning environments. "
The WhyTry Program

The WhyTry Program was originally created by Christian Moore L.C.S.W. as a set of practical tools to teach children and youth with learning differences. While working as a counselor at a special highschool for at risk youth, Christian noticed that the majority of the kids were struggling as a result of learning differences. After being tested it was found that the many of these kids were visual learners. In an attempt to reach them during counseling sessions he began to draw pictures of analogies that related to the problems that the youth were trying to overcome. Those rough pictures eventually evolved into a set of analogies that he used to teach skills such as:

  • Basic problem solving
  • Anger management
  • Understanding the consequences of their decisions
  • Removing the negative labels placed upon them
  • Dealing with peer pressure
  • Living and keeping societies laws and rules
  • Building a support system
  • Having goals and a vision of their future

Over time the analogies were refined and more were created. Through the collaborative efforts of several people additional pieces were added to the program such as music and experiential activies. All of these tools are used to communicate and reinforce the principles that are taught in the visual analogies and help to create a truely multisensory program that youth will understand.

The Why Try Program Complete Set Includes:
The Teachers Manual
A 1" three ring binder containing a set of 10 full color visual analogies placed in protective plastic sheets. Chapters that contain step by step detailed instructions on how to teach each of the analogies. A chapter on the 20 Steps to Surrendering The "One-Up" relationship. (a key to the success of the program) Two group experiential activities for each of the visual analogies. One set of color overhead transparancies of each of the analogies. The WhyTry Music supplement including the lyrics and questions that can be used to discuss the music. more

The Music CD

The WhyTry Music CD is a compilation of songs, each containing lyrics and a message that directly correspond to one of the visual analogies in the program. Listen here.

1 Set of Posters

The posters are a beautifully printed 27"X 36" set of the visual analogies included in the workbook. They are very helpful when teaching groups, or when mounted and hung on the wall they can be a powerful way to reinforce the lessons that were taught. Each poster is printed on heavy paper and sprayed with a protective waterproof coating.more
