Why Resilience?

Why Resilience?

There has never been a greater need to foster school environments that allow teachers and students to thrive. Studies have shown that students who score higher on resilience measures have improved social skills, higher grades, a greater love of learning, and better decision-making skills.

WhyTry Programs Provide Solutions For

In Education & Beyond

Two students with the same background are in the same school. They have the same teachers and face relatively the same challenges at school and at home. Both students are uncomfortable with math, and both do pretty badly on the first exam.

The first student gives up. He throws his hands up into the air and says, "I can't do this!" He stops going to class. He's sure he'll never get any better than an F anyway. The second student uses that failed test as fuel. She goes to after-school tutoring, double checks all her work, and studies. When the second test comes along, she's ready.

Two children, the same problems, but with different results.

What is the difference between the two?

Why does one student advance
while the other retreats?

The answer: Resilience.

What Is Resilience?

"the ability to bounce back when you have every reason to shut down -- but you fight on!

Today, resilience is often referred to as grit - the ability to do what you must in the face of any hardship, to put your mind to your goals, to push harder, and to overcome. In WhyTry, we call this resilience. We understand grit, or resilience, as the ability to bounce back when you have every reason to shut down -- but you fight on! We want this for our students, for our teachers, for our staff members, for our employees, for our parents, for everyone!

WhyTry can help students achieve resilience by providing the tools and training needed to see life's obstacles as nothing more than bumps in the road. We have helped over 2 million youth already, bringing resilience to students and educators around the world.

Why Resilience?

Resilience, like any other skill or ability, is a learned attribute.
We have proven this in our over 20 years of application,
experience, observation, and research

Everyone faces challenges. Everyone faces adversities. Our
students encounter a variety of problems at home, at school,
and with their peers. These challenges can include:

  • Bullying
  • Peer Pressure
  • Loneliness
  • Poverty
  • Hunger
  • Fighting
  • Absent Parents
  • Divorced Parents
  • Learning Challenges

The good news is that whether your students face these problems
or others, resilience can be learned!

What makes a child who succeeds different from his or her
peers is their ability to fight on when things get tough.
This is why resilience education is so important for our youth.

Resilience is the single most important attribute a person
can develop in order to achieve overall happiness and success in life.
