WHYTRY PROGRAMS PROVIDE SOLUTIONS FOR
Social Emotional Learning (SEL)
When our youth enter the real world upon graduation, the tests and assessments they completed as students will only take them so far. Any social and emotional life skills they gained, however, will contribute greatly to their college and career readiness and overall success in life.
Research has shown that a stronger focus on social emotional learning (SEL) leads to higher graduation rates, improved behaviors inside and outside the classroom, and student success in the pursuit of personal goals. Academics of the past define the “what” of education, but often miss the valuable “why.” SEL programs like WhyTry and the Resilience Breakthrough for Youth help students to connect these two important principles.
At the WhyTry Organization, we’ve incorporated another element to the academic/SEL combination that has proven to be effective in helping students to make positive life changes at home, at school, and with their peers. That factor is relevance.
By incorporating relevance in SEL programs in addition to a focus on academics, we are giving students the tools they need to achieve success, happiness, and academic resilience.
“Taking social and emotional education and putting different strategies in it to relate to the kids on their level is definitely a way to help kids better educate themselves and have the lives they want to have.” -Jamall Kinnard, Site Organizer, Communities
