Highlighting Best Practices in Student Engagement

Anna Marie serves as Assistant Superintendent of Student Engagement and Support at OSPI (Office of Superintendent of Public Instruction) in Olympia, WA. The division promotes a system of support for all 295 school districts in WA, ensuring that every student is Safe, Healthy, Supported, Challenged, and Engaged. Anna Marie served as a principal in a K-8 school during and after the pandemic and has many years of experience working with students and families furthest from educational justice, including foster care youth, homeless youth,  incarcerated youth, and students with disabilities. She has taught learners from preschool age through adult and is committed to creating a system of education in which all students get their needs met and are able to succeed. She knows the day-to-day realities of running a school and the many demands placed upon administrators to ensure high-quality instruction, and the challenges faced by schools in 2023 and beyond. In her current role, she is excited to work with a strong team of committed professionals who are impacting the system positively through professional learning opportunities, ensuring our schools are safe and healthy through regional school safety and well-being centers and by creating Early Warning Indicator systems focused on Attendance, Behavior, and Credits. She is committed to undoing racism and being a culturally humble practitioner. Her desire is for the public school system to thrive and for every student and educator to have the resources and support they need every day.
