Reaching the Disengaged Student: Practical Strategies for Motivation, Attendance & Resilience

What Do You Do When a Student Shuts Down?

When a student stops showing up, shuts down in class, seems unmotivated, or simply doesn’t see the point of school, how do we help them reconnect?

Join nationally recognized resilience expert and author Christian Moore, LCSW, for a practical conversation about reaching students who may be disengaged, discouraged, chronically absent, or struggling to see a hopeful path forward.

Drawing from his own experience overcoming significant learning challenges and adversity, as well as more than two decades of work with educators and students, Christian will share practical approaches for helping young people build motivation, connection, and resilience—especially when traditional approaches aren’t working.

In this webinar, we’ll explore:

  • Why disengagement and chronic absenteeism are often symptoms of deeper challenges—not simply a lack of motivation
  • Practical ways to build connection with students who may be difficult to reach
  • Strategies for helping students recognize their strengths and develop greater motivation
  • Ways to help students connect the choices they make today with a more hopeful vision for their future
  • Simple resilience-building tools educators can begin using with students right away

You’ll also learn about free tools and resources available to Mississippi educators that can support this work with students.

Whether you’re a teacher, counselor, social worker, administrator, interventionist, or other education professional, this session is designed to give you practical ideas you can put to work with students immediately.
