WhyTry Programs Provide Solutions For

Fostering School-Wide Resilience:

Resilience for Youth

What is the Resilience for Youth Program?

We’ve identified four sources of resilience that help every person in a school – students, teachers, and staff – identify where resilience is found and how to access it.  Taken from WhyTry Founder Christian Moore’s renowned book The Resilience Breakthrough: 27 Tools for Turning Adversity into Action, the strategies in this engaging new program will transform the way you and your students view life’s challenges.

Resilience for Youth uses the same multisensory approach as the WhyTry Program – learning activities, journal activities that help students reflect on program concepts, music, video, and other multimedia. The curriculum engages all major learning styles (visual, auditory, and body-kinesthetic).

Implementation Examples

Because of the variety of multisensory tools the program uses to illustrate the concepts in each unit, Resilience for Youth is flexible. Program concepts can be effectively taught in an hour-long small group session or in a ten-minute homeroom environment.

We recommend implementing Resilience for Youth as part of:

  • Homerooms
  • College and career prep
  • Leadership classes
  • Student success
  • Tier 1 interventions
  • School-wide resilience initiatives
  • After-school programs

WhyTry programs are led by thousands of professionals around the world:

  • Teachers and special ed instructors
  • School counselors and psychologists
  • Social workers
  • Probation officers
  • Corrections staff
  • After-school mentors

6 Units

The Resilience for Youth program uses a multisensory learning approach to teach the skills of resilience to students of all learning types. This approach includes the use of a series of visual analogies to illustrate each unit in the curriculum.

Professional Development

The Resilience for Youth Training can help teachers, administrators, and other youth advocates create a culture of resilience in their school or setting.

  • “EVERY PERSON, man, women and child should be REQUIRED to go through your program in order to go through life… If we can do this program everywhere, in every school, we would be spending much less money and resources on prisons, youth detention and alternative schools. The teachers need it as much as the youth.” -Jill Porter, Probation Officer, New York
  • “Everyone has learned to communicate with one another, how to express themselves, how to be understood, and how to understand. A lot of it starts in the lessons, but it carries over into the ongoing daily presence throughout the schools.” –Kim Miles, director of secondary education, Wicomico County Schools, Maryland
