Why Resilience?

Why Resilience?

WhyTry Programs Provide Solutions For

WHYTRY PROGRAMS PROVIDE SOLUTIONS FOR

Motivating Unmotivated Students

Every passionate teacher and administrator feels the urgency surrounding student achievement. But closing the achievement gap takes more than passion – it requires having the tools and strategies to help you create a safe and supportive environment for every student in a classroom– from the engaged learner on the front row to the unmotivated and struggling student on the back row.

You can deliver social and emotional (SEL) skills in ways that students understand and remember. You can motivate and engage your students to achieve the common core standards and raise their test scores. You can gain a renewed sense of confidence in your ability to build motivation and resilience in the youth in your classroom. It starts with WhyTry.

Using the WhyTry Program:

  • Students reported fewer emotional problems, depression symptoms, attention problems, rule-breaking behaviors, and aggressive behaviors
  • Students showed improved attitudes and motivation, while there was a decline in the non-WhyTry classroom
  • Behavior Incident Reports decreased by 20%

About Resilience
Breakthrough

  • “We’ve enjoyed the activities and seen a difference in how they help students work with teachers and build confidence in themselves… They realize they have the potential of doing and becoming whatever they want.” –Dr. Margo Handy, Assistant Superintendent of Instruction and Curriculum, Wicomico County Schools, Maryland
  • “They started participating more, they started opening up on different issues that they were dealing with, versus when we first brought the program in, some of them wouldn’t even talk. That’s when we knew something positive was happening with these kids.” –Joe Cunningham, Program Coordinator, Communities in Schools, Texas
  • "I want to thank the person who created the Why Try program for making it and for teaching others how to teach it and help their students better themselves and make it in this world of people telling them they can't." –Ashley, 10th grader, Boone High School, Iowa
